This was a course project completed during my first year of my TU Delft masters. I explored if an old factory site can programmatically reassert its relevance in the urban fabric and localise productive places to live in the student city of Delft. The aim of this project was to introduce 5,000 new housing units to the South Delft. Specifically, I aimed to redefine an area in current demise and demonstrate its huge potential to respond to the influx of young residents (students) in the area. This was achieved by investigating the potential futures of industrial landscapes and typologies, and resulted in a visionary proposal for the Schieoevers area.

SWOT Analysis: Turning problems into solutions
The Problem:
Brown-fields – unused and abandoned sites – are scars on the landscape and often the legacy of our industrial past. They are the result of heavy industrial activity that did not pay as much attention to environmental concerns as we do today. If managed efficiently and professionally, these brown-field sites have great potential in land recycling programs.
The Solutions:
(1) Revitalization of Industrial Infrastructure
Circulate heat waste from revitalized production facilities and their existing infrastructure + Absorb existing civil systems (such as, pipes, boilers, etc) with the property in exchange for environmental remediation pay-out from seller + Green walls to clean air and large surfaces to collect water run-off to filter contaminants out of soil.

2) Remediation of Ecological Landscape
Diverse Horticulture and Biodiversity including deep-rooted and surface species + Purification of Water through Productive Shores and an Algal remediation program on Schie edges + Ensure liveable edges for bats, insects and birds.

(3) Bridging Boundaries
Ease the stressed East-West connections through circular cycle routes to top destinations + Connect fragmented populations and mend disintegrating social landscapes through a shared, inclusive in-between space + Invite diverse demographics and functionalities to share the same socio-spatial identity increasing productivity, collaboration and innovation for all.
